Teras Cihampelas Community Festival
Teras Cihampelas, established in 2017, is an elevated pedestrian zone (skywalk) built above Jalan Cihampelas in Bandung to relocate street vendors from sidewalks and improve pedestrian flow. Initially celebrated, the excitement surrounding the area quickly faded, leaving it underused, quiet, and poorly maintained. Several key issues contribute to this decline: a limited variety of vendors offering unappealing products, neglected public facilities like toilets and prayer areas, and a general lack of engaging elements to attract visitors.
Despite this, Teras Cihampelas holds immense potential as an inclusive and dynamic public space. Recent expansions have introduced new interactive zones such as a stage platform, chill area, catwalk, RC arena, and coworking space. These features provide opportunities for diverse community activities and interactions. To fully realize this potential, three strategic steps are proposed:
- Improving public facilities based on feedback from visitors and residents
- Providing regular mentorship for local MSMEs to support their growth
- Fostering collaboration between communities, government, and private sectors to build a sustainable public ecosystem.
To bring this vision to life, the Teras Cihampelas Community Fest will be held over two days, showcasing local communities and celebrating creativity, culture, and entrepreneurship in Bandung. On Day 1, the festival will feature activities by Remote Control Car and Hot Wheels communities, including competitions, talk shows, and community interactions at the RC Arena. It will also host a fashion catwalk where local fashion communities can present their creations. On Day 2, the spotlight will shift to local street food vendors and small business owners at Teras Cihampelas, with talk shows and business showcases aimed at providing insights and opportunities for entrepreneurial growth.
In addition to the main events, pre-event programs will be held in mid-May. These include the Teras Cihampelas Facility Support, where improvements to public amenities like toilets and prayer rooms will be made to enhance visitor comfort, and the UMKM Forum, a public discussion between local MSMEs and government representatives to explore current challenges and co-create solutions.
The Teras Cihampelas Community Fest serves as a catalyst to revitalize this public space, turning it into a vibrant and sustainable hub of local culture, commerce, and collaboration.
